Does intermittent fasting lead to halitosis?

Ans.In simple language, halitosis means bad breath. Intermittent fasting or regional fasting is basically fasting from the food and water and eating in strict time window only. People who practice intermittent fasting keep a strict control over their diet and don’t eat or drink outside the eating window. It usually leads to reduced amount of saliva flow in the mouth, and can even cause the feeling of dehydration leading to dry mouth. Thus, there is decreased mechanical cleaning of the mouth. These conditions encourage the bacterial growth. This will cause bad breath or halitosis.

We can easily overcome this problem by following these:

  • Drink plenty of water
  • Brushing the teeth properly, twice daily.
  • Brushing the tongue.
  • Eat healthy and balance diet.
  • Include raw fruits and vegetables in your meals.
  • Avoiding excesses consumption of sugary food and drinks.
  • Using menthol chewing gums.

By using an apple cider vinegar rinse during the eating window to cure the bad breathe.
