How to prevent Teeth Decay?

Ans.Tooth decay is the most common dental problem. It is called cavity and caries, and caused by combination of factors like bacteria producing acid that causes demineralisation of the enamel of the tooth, and leads to infection in dentine and pulp chamber. Tooth decay damages the structure of the tooth and causes damage to the outer and inner coating of the teeth.

Prevention and care

  • Good oral hygiene: regular brushing and flossing of the teeth is the first step to avoid the decay. Dentist recommended brushing twice a day and flossing every single day. Use the fluoride toothpaste.
  • Rinse your mouth after every single meal.
  • Drink water: drink the water that contain proper (1ppm) amount of fluoride.
  • Limit snacking: avoid frequent snacking. It will increase the contact period of the food to the surface.
  • Reduce intake of sweet and beverage: sweet food and deserts like candies, cake, soft drink etc. contain high sugar contain, which causes the more acid to be produced by bacteria.
  • Consult your dentist: A visit to dentist once every six months can prevent the tooth decay and other dental problems.
  • Fluoride treatment: very effective for prevention of decay. It can be done by dentists.

Dental sealant: prevent the tooth from pit and fissure caries. It will prevent as well as control the tooth cavity.
